Thanks, Mark. I failed to mention that I called 1-800-COMCAST. Talked to a customer service rep after twenty or thirty minutes. She said she didn't see a problem in my area. She'd check... and then she hung up. But I believe your heart's in the right place: enjoyed your talk at Gnomedex.
